Mattia Paganotti, that’s the man behind the brand Legor, a guy with a real passion for what he’s doing.
He’s young, but this is just the best part of the story. For 3 years, Mattia has been running his own business in frame building, and looking at his work, anyone can tell that he definitely has some skills.
I went to visit him in Brescia a few weeks ago, and what I found in his workshop was just amazing, vintage machinery and tools brought a lot of charm to that place. He was given the content of an old workshop belonging to one of the best frame builders on the planet, Mr. Pietro Serena. He is maybe not as well known as he deserves to be but absolutely one of the best of his kind. He was the frame builder for many champions, soon I might write a little on the history of this special man. I was very excited to be in a workshop where a young guy is using tools that could be 100 years old, first owned by Serena’s father, who was a frame builder as well.
Thanks to the help of another skilled frame builder, Gino Lissignoli, Mattia learned all he needed to start building frames, the rest, about metals, brazing and stuff, was already a part of his knowledge due to his previous job. He comes from a family of steelworkers, and he started lighting up brazing torches at a young age.
He’s specialized in building with the fillet brazing technique and lugged frames, following the rules of the old Italian school but with a very modern approach and style. He makes one frame at a time, spending a lot of time taking care of all the small details. Because of that, and because of the knowledge he already has, every Legor frame is a unique masterpiece. The passion and the skills he puts in his job, resulted in an invitation to participate to the last edition of the famous NAHBS, together with the best frame builders of the world.
You should definitely pay a visit to Legor’s website and check out Mattia’s creations.
And for those of you who are wondering what the meaning of the name Legor is, well… it’s the translation of the word jackrabbit in Brescian dialect.
I’m looking forward to meet this guy again soon, and I’m sure you will hear much more about him in the future.
